While the term "car" doesn't seem entirely appropriate here. For one thing, the small, 2.52-meter "flea" has L7e homologation as a "light quadricycle," effectively classifying it with ATVs. For another, Microlino itself advertises with the slogan "This is not a car." It's more like a kind of motorcycle with weather protection – designed as a means of transport for daily commutes. The Ouboter family, the inventors of Microlino, started by questioning how many cars are truly needed for daily life. Studies show that there's rarely more than one person in a car, and they typically travel less than 40 kilometers on average.
The Microlino is therefore the answer to this problem – and, incidentally, a kind of resurrection of the BMW Isetta. Like the legendary small car, the Microlino has a single door at the front. The dimensions are roughly the same, and the design also strongly references its spiritual ancestor. Beyond that, the differences couldn't be greater. A 12.5 kW (16 hp) electric motor is located at the rear, and LED headlights illuminate the road. They're placed on the sides like weasel eyes, giving the vehicle a cheerful face.
Getting in is very easy. You can almost walk into the Microlino, turn around, and simply sit down. Where the Isetta's interior resembled an empty drink can, the Microlino surprisingly has a lot to offer: a digital cockpit, control via a small touchscreen, faux leather and microfiber materials, a Bluetooth speaker, and a heated rear window – it's all there.
